  Civil War Monument
  Cyril Henry Barraud   (1877-1965)

[GRAND ARMY PLAZA, BROOKLYN, THE TRIUMPHAL ARCH], ca. 1932 . Signed in pencil. Barraud was a Canadian-British artist who spent some time in the USA. This splendid monument to the Civil War (at the entrance to Olmstead's Prospect Park) is similar to the arch in Washington Square, but the Brooklyn structure boasts sculpture by the renowned Augustus St. Gaudens. A luxurious chauffered limousine is shown passing by the monument. In the lower margin there is a blindstamp of five ovals with various lettering. Barraud's career has been well-documented by Tovell, A New Class of Art, National Gallery of Canada, 1996. This is a fine impression in excellent condition.
  Etching and drypoint, 7 3/4 x 7 inches. $400.
