  The Southwest
  Jerry Bywaters   (1906-1989)

SOUTHWESTERN TOWN, ca. 1930. Titled in pencil. Unsigned, but the artist's name is inscribed in pencil at edge of sheet. Printed in black on thin Japanese paper. This is an evocative view of a flat plain with sharp western mountains rising abruptly in the distance. There are rustic signs for gas, food and Nehi. An old Ford automobile and a man on horseback are stopped for a huge freight train rumbling through this small farming enclave. Bywaters was a well-known Texas artist who later became director of the Dallas Art Museum. In excellent condition.
  Lithograph, 6 1/2 x 12 7/16 inches. SOLD.
